For the fifth annual sponsored swim organised by the WGC-based Isabel Hospice has taken on a floral theme.

This year the theme is the sunflower which, organiser Pam Shepherd said, was particularly apt as this is also the international symbol of the hospice movement.

The swim takes place in the pool at Haileybury College in Hertford Heath on Sunday, February 22 from 9am to 4pm.

The hospice hopes that swimmers will cover a collective 100 miles on the day.

Times and swim lanes are currently being allocated.

Already registered include Forres Flowers, a team of teachers from a Hoddesdon primary school, The Sunflower Paddlers and The Sunflower Splashers, both made up of hospice nurses, and The Turtles, from the hospice's physio department.

Pam said: "The sponsored swim is a great way to support a really valued local charity and swim off any Christmas excesses too!

"Many people who take part in the swim do so in memory of a loved one and others do it just because it has become known as such a fun event."

She added: "Every £1 raised makes a difference and every £1 raised in the swim goes directly towards patient care.
