The search is on for ‘the best sporting pub’ – and organisers want entries from the Welwyn Hatfield and Potters Bar area.
The Countryside Alliance and Country Life magazine have teamed up to launch the nationwide search.
“We all love a country pub and for those of us who take part in country sports the lure of a warm fire, a cold pint and a good feed is hard to beat,” said a spokesman for the organisers.
“This competition aims to celebrate traditional pubs and hotels which have a long history of support for country sports, whether they welcome muddy dogs and wellies, host a meet of the local hunt, serve the best local game or are the place to be once the fishing or shooting day is over.”
Potential criteria includes:
• Do they hold a meet or a shoot syndicate lunch or social event, eg a hunt quiz?
• Is there a river/stabling?
• Are dogs welcome?
• Is game served? (local beer also an extra plus).
• Is there sporting memorabilia?
• Are bar staff knowledgeable?
• Can you leave your wellies at the door?

Nominations run until Friday, September 11.
