An international rugby player returned to her Welwyn Garden City secondary school to celebrate its young sporting stars.
Lotte Clapp, who plays for Saracens and England Women as a right winger, presented awards at Sir Frederic Osborn School’s Sports Awards Evening on Thursday.
She said afterwards: “It was a real pleasure to come and see the enjoyment and sense of achievement sports can bring to our young people.”
Headteacher Jed Whelan said: “The evening recognised the many talents of the schools’ students in one of the school’s most popular subjects, and it was fantastic to see students, present and past staff sharing in their successes.
“The school had a fantastic athletics season.”
The sports personalities of the year awards went to Sam Edge and Charlotte Cox, with the under-15 boys’ athletics squad named team of the year.
Among other new athletics records, Joe Francis in Year 10 has recently equalled the high jump record of 1.85 metres set by future England goalkeeper David James in 1985.
