An electric vehicle charging unit has been installed in Welwyn.

The Chargemaster FastCharge dual-socket unit is suitable for all electric vehicles and capable of charging up to 90 miles of range in one hour.

Located at the Civic Centre Car Park in Prospect Place, the unit is positioned between two dedicated charging parking bays available for use by residents and visitors 24 hours a day.

It is part of the Polar charging network, which is free to sign up for.

The project was funded by a £7,345 grant from the Office for Low Emission Vehicles through the government’s onstreet residential charging scheme and a £2,325 investment by Welwyn Parish Council.

Welwyn Parish Council chairman Bill Morris said: “The installation of the electric vehicle charging points was a commitment by this council to meet the needs of our residents, businesses and visitors.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for people to make the switch to electric vehicles, which will help reduce emissions and improve air quality.”

He thanked councillor Dennis Spruce for his dedication in bringing the project to fruition in partnership with the Energy Saving Trust, which managed and administered the grant process.
