BALLOT papers for the local elections and AV referendum in Hertsmere were verified last night (Thursday) after polling stations closed at 10pm.

An estimated turnout of 35 per cent was calculated, which the council said is “about right” for local elections, the figure tends to increase to around 60 per cent at General Elections.

The actual votes for each candidate and referendum option will be counted today (Friday) at Allum Lane Community Centre, in Borehamwood.

The count for the local elections will start at 12pm with results announced ward by ward as they are confirmed.

All results are expected to be called by 3pm.

The count for the national referendum on the Alternative Vote will start at 4pm at the request of the Electoral Commission the Hertsmere result is expected by around 7pm. The national result will be announced by The Electoral Commission later in the evening or during the weekend.
