THE area in which you live could soon be changing names - as a mass shake-up in election boundaries takes place.

The biggest change will take place across Hatfield - as the ward of Hatfield Villages is created.

Some residents of Panshanger in WGC, will soon be living in Haldens, those in Welwyn North will be moving to Welwyn East and those in Welwyn South are now in Welwyn West.

Virtually every council ward is affected.

Many unsuspecting electors off to the polls on May 1 are likely to arrive at the wrong polling station as the new boundaries kick in.

The reason for the change is the extra homes being built in key areas such as the old BAe site.

And due to the shake-up every one of the 48 seats on Welwyn Hatfield Council will be up for grabs.

Normally, only one third of the council is up for election in a four-year cycle.

Council chief executive Michel Saminaden, who is also responsible for the election, said; "A polling place review has taken place in line with the boundary review in an attempt to minimise changes and ensure that the process as is convenient as possible for residents.

"We'd urge residents to check their polling card when it arrives - for most people the polling station will remain the same, but for some it will have changed."
