Welwyn Garden City pupils rode white water rapids as part of Lee Valley Regional Park Authority’s annual Schools Festival today.

Youngsters from Sir Frederic Osborn School joined over 450 secondary school pupils from London, Herts and Essex to ride the rapids at the centre in Waltham Cross.

They experienced rafting down the thrilling 300-metre long Olympic Standard Competition Course, with the rush of 13,000 litres of water per second, the same course where Team GB won gold and silver in the Canoe Slalom Events at London 2012.

Paul Osborn, chairman of Lee Valley Regional Park Authority said: “We have funded Schools Festivals every year since 2011 as part of our Olympic legacy work - and we know that they provide the first experience of this adrenalin sport for most of the pupils who come here.”

Young visitors also tested some of the new inflatable attractions coming soon to the venue.
