Students at Sir Frederic Osborn School in Welwyn Garden City met the Leader of Welwyn Hatfield Council to talk about politics and ask him questions about his role.

Members of Year 10 met Councillor John Dean, who described what he does for the people of Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield and what it means to be an elected representative.

They discussed the work of the Borough Council and expressed their views on how they would like to see developments made in the local area to make life better for young people.

The most popular topics were the availability of transport and the range of leisure activities young people would like to see. They also discussed the difference between national, county and local government.

Councillor Dean said: “It was lovely to visit the school and to see for myself the amount of engagement our young people have in what happens in our community.”
