A Welwyn Hatfield primary school was “buzzing with enthusiasm” at its recent Wellbeing Day.
St Michael’s Woolmer Green School pupils undertook six activities to do with five areas of wellbeing: connect, be active, take notice, keep learning and give.
The children learnt circus skills, danced, sang, painted pebbles, performed drama, yoga and ‘threw away’ their worries and wrote down their dreams and aspirations to hang on the school dream catcher.
The day finished with the whole school singing ‘A Million Dreams’ from The Greatest Showman and dancing in a playground flash mob.
Headteacher Jan Martin said: “It was so lovely to see the older children supporting our youngest children.
“The staff were really impressed with the good behaviour and manners shown by the children.
“They fed back about their day in the form of a short questionnaire and their responses were very positive.
“A great deal of preparation went into the day and all the staff worked hard to make the day successful.”
Staff were also treated to some wellbeing at the end of the day, painting mugs.
The children completed challenge cards as a follow up to the day over half term and returned them to classes after the holiday.
The school has also been involved in a project with the Anna Freud Children and Families Centre and as such, have been practising Mindfulness across the school since the beginning of the year.
