THE University of Hertfordshire has pledged for a 20 per cent cut of its carbon footprint by 2012.
This week the Hatfield uni launched the UK’s first completely online only prospectus as part of its promise to become more green and is installing energy saving devices wherever possible.
The new web-only brochure will see a saving of 7,200kg of carbon dioxide and 16.2 tonnes of paper per year with the cost of distribution to both UK and overseas being removed for the heavy prospectuses.
Andrew Starr, director at the centre for sustainable communities, said: “Continual improvement of environmental performance is a key aspect of the university’s sustainability strategy.
“The decision to move the postgraduate prospectus online was an environmental decision combined with the continuing demand for resources to be available digitally.”
The College Lane-based uni will also be educating staff and students about energy efficiency in the upcoming future.
