THE University of Hertfordshire is in the top 10 of the UK’s greenest unis.

The Hatfield-based university was ranked joint eighth in the People and Planet Green League and also received a First Class award for the fifth year running.

The league aims to improve the environmental impact of the UK’s 142 universities and takes into account the commitment to improvement and actual environmental and ethical performance.

Overall, the College Lane institution scored 45.5 out of 70 and achieved maximum points for the availability of its environmental policies, the implementation of various sustainable food practices, the opportunities for staff and student engagement in environmental activities and the purchase of 100 per cent renewable energy.
