Sebastian Conran gave a talk at the University of Hertfordshire, in Hatfield, on Thursday.

Although his roots may lie in punk – he apparently booked the Sex Pistols’ first gig – he has gone on to design for Mothercare and John Lewis.

He said: “It’s important that aspiring students of design meet ‘real world designers’ and understand their challenges. “It is always rewarding to share my insight and experience with the students at the University of Hertfordshire as I can reflect on and outline what value, design, quality and brand mean to us and how we utilise this analytical approach in creating successful & satisfying products.

“The students were particularly engaging with some thought provoking and intelligent feedback.”
