A POTTERS Bar school put on a spectacular display of music, dance and drama.

The gala shindig was staged to celebrate the achievements of students at Mount Grace School, Church Road, in front of an audience of parents and dignitaries.

The show was attended by local business leaders, the deputy mayor of Hertsmere, Peter Knell, and MP James Clappison. Appearing in public for the first time was the Mount Grace Rhythm & Blues Orchestra conducted by Yiannis Christiophides.

Also, with Natalie Portman starring in ballet blockbuster Black Swan, which has been tipped for an Oscar, there was a timely contemporary, topical version of Swan Lake choreographed by Michael Bourne.

The second half started off with a performance from the musical Chicago – All that Jazz, performed by Georgia Trupia and the Mount Grace Chorus Girls.

Kelly Herbert sang a Nina Simone cover, Feelin’ Good. And the finale, a Trammps cover, Disco Inferno, was a taster of the forthcoming school musical production.

Headteacher Peter Baker said: “The special guests were all very impressed by the Mount Grace ‘Oscar’ winners and the high quality of the performances.

“They have obviously enjoyed entertaining us – they are very professional.

“They are a credit to their families, the school and the town.”
