Potters Bar parents have thrown their support behind a local secondary school after its headteacher declared it is on the right track.

Mount Grace head Peter Baker last week said the community can have faith in its local school following an “excellent” set of exam results, despite a negative Ofsted report months earlier.

Following the Potters Bar Edition article local parents eulogised about the “fantastic” school on social media.

Cranborne resident Anabel Iaquinandi, whose son is in Year 11, said: “I feel the school gets unfair negativity to be honest.

“I don’t have a clue what the Ofsted inspectors saw during their visit but my son is thriving and predicted to get excellent GCSE results.”

Anabel added she has not had to deal with teachers besides at parents’ evenings, but insisted they all make it clear they are easily contactable if necessary.

“My son is thankfully confident enough to talk to his teachers directly if he has had any issues,” she added. “I believe that’s largely due to their constant support and encouragement.

“The head Mr Baker has always been extremely approachable and personable.”

Blackbury Close mum Lindsay Mcintyre also said that despite her child suffering with behaviour problems, Mount Grace played a pivotal role in helping him achieve “outstanding” results.

“Without all Mount Grace’s help and support I don’t know where my son would have ended up. Thanks to Mount Grace he has a very positive future in his chosen career.

“Not every child is academic but with the right help and support every child can thrive. Thank you Mount Grace for being a fantastic school.”

The positive exam results and public support follow a difficult few months for the school, during which Ofsted inspectors rated leadership and management ‘inadequate’ and four other key areas as ‘requires improvement’.

Headteacher Peter Baker said: “I am delighted that so many of our parents have been extremely supportive of the school throughout the last few months.

“Parents, staff and students have worked together as a team to prove our critics wrong and we have seen this hard work reflected in our excellent results.

“We will continue to work hard towards the goal of every student reaching their full potential. I would like to thank parents for all their help and support at this time.”
