ECO-CONSCIOUS kids at a primary school have been rewarded with a prestigious prize.

The Ryde School, in Pleasant Rise, Hatfield, has gained a Green Flag Eco Schools Award.

The internationally-recognised gong praises “continued excellence in improving the environmental performance of the school and wider community”.

Pupils worked on a variety of green schemes including composting, paper recycling, bikeability programmes and gardening.

They have built a bug hotel in the wild area which is a habitat for insects and bugs.

And two walking buses operate where the children walk to school in a convoy supervised by trained helpers.

Head Janet Goddard said: “The school was delighted to receive the Green Flag award from MP Grant Shapps at a special assembly.”
