THE University of Hertfordshire has received an award in recognition of its support towards young people leaving care – plus an individual award for a member of staff.

The Hatfield-based uni has been given the Frank Buttle Trust Quality Mark, which honours higher education institutions that actively support students who have been in public care.

Ross Renton, head of UK recruitment and access at the university, said: “We are committed to supporting students who have the academic ability to succeed, regardless of their background. The Quality Mark Award from the Frank Buttle Trust further demonstrates our dedication to ensuring an outstanding student experience.”

Another award has also been given to one of the uni’s own staff. Professor Tim Hitchcock has received the History Today Trustees Award, for his contribution to promoting history.

The award was given in recognition of Prof Hitchcock’s work in creating the Old Bailey Online and London Lives websites, alongside his long-time collaborator Prof Robert Shoemaker.
