Actress, comedian and writer Helen Lederer was left feeling ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ after receiving her gong from the University of Hertfordshire.

Ms Lederer, a graduate in Applied Social Sciences at the Hatfield-based uni in 1978 – then the Hatfield Polytechnic – was made a Doctor of Letters.

The Ab Fab actress, who appeared in all five series of the show which starred Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley, said: “It is a real honour to be invited here in the midst of so much achievement.

“I am very grateful and in awe.”

The award was presented by Lord Salisbury, chancellor of the University of Hertfordshire, Professor Quintin McKellar, vice-chancellor, Professor Ian Campbell, deputy vice-chancellor and Richard Beazley, pro chancellor.
