It was an early start at Oaklands College yesterday morning with expectant students eager to collect this year’s A-level results.

There was good news all round with overall results showing a marked year on year increase.

Particular highlights included nine A2 subjects achieving 100 per cent pass rates including English language, biology, psychology and history.

In addition to this, 94 per cent of extended projects achieved high grades, which the college puts down to its ability to nurture independent study.

After setting a fantastic benchmark with four As at AS level last summer, Anxhela Syziu, 23, of Hatfield bettered her already impressive predicted straight A results to secure A*s in chemistry and biology with an A in maths.

After coming to the UK from Albania at the end of 2014 to take her A-levels, she will now head to Liverpool to study medicine and pursue her dream of becoming a doctor.

Earlier this year, she was nominated in the college’s annual Celebration of Success Awards in the A-level category for her exemplary attitude and approach to her studies.

She was also commended for being a positive role model with peers, juggling the demands of family life with a two-year-old son.

Anxhela said: “I am thrilled.

“Getting my A-levels means so much to me so I could have qualifications formally recognised by UK universities.

“I can now look forward to relocating to Liverpool to further my studies to build a better future for my son.”

Oaklands principal Zoe Hancock said: “These results are a testimony to the hard work of our students and staff.

“It is great to be part of their journey and we wish them every success in the future.”
