AFTER widespread disruption and school closures in Hertfordshire today (Monday), the majority of the county’s pupils will be back behind their desks on Tuesday morning.

Nursery, primary and secondary schools in Welwyn Garden City, Potters Bar, Hatfield and surrounding villages closed today (January 21) because of the heavy snow over the weekend and treacherous conditions.

However, most will open as normal on Tuesday, January 22, although some schools will have later registration times to allow staff and pupils to travel to school safely.

Among the schools open on Tuesday are:

* All Saints C E Primary, in Datchworth, will open at 9am with registers closing at 10am. Roads near the school have not been gritted, so parents are warned to drive carefully and only travel if safe to do so.

* Applecroft Primary, in Welwyn Garden City, will open as normal, but pupils are advised to wear warm clothing and sensible footwear.

* Birchwood Avenue Primary, in Hatfield, will open as normal.

* Bishop’s Hatfield Girls’ School, in Hatfield, will open normal hours on Tuesday, with pupils expected to wear suitable footwear for the weather conditions.

* Brookmans Park Primary, in Brookmans Park.

* Chancellor’s Secondary School, in Brookmans Park.

* Commonswood Primary, in Welwyn Garden City, will be open as usual on Tuesday but registers will be open until 9.30am so that arrival times can be staggered.

* Cranborne Primary, in Potters Bar.

* Creswick Primary and Nursery School, in Welwyn Garden City.

* Essendon C of E Primary.

* Harwood Hill JMI and Nursery, in Welwyn Garden City.

* Holwell Primary, in Welwyn Garden City.

* Homerswood Primary & Nursery School in Welwyn Garden City.

* Howe Dell Primary, in Hatfield.

* Kimpton Primary.

* Knightsfield, in Welwyn Garden City, expects to be open.

* Ladbrooke JMI, in Potters Bar.

* Lakeside, in Welwyn Garden City, will be open but with a later 10am start due to icy conditions on side roads.

* Ludwick Nursery School, in Welwyn Garden City, with all parts of the centre – Ludwick, Squirrels and Oak Tree – open.

* Monk’s Walk, in Welwyn Garden City, will be open as normal.

* Mount Grace, in Potters Bar.

*Northaw C of E Primary School in Northaw.

* Oaklands Primary, in Welwyn, will reopen. A school statement said: “Predicted freezing conditions, so please take care getting to school as roads and pavements may be icy.”

* Oak View, in Hatfield.

* Onslow St Audrey’s Secondary, in Hatfield.

* Our Lady Catholic Primary in Welwyn Garden City.

* Both KS3 and KS4 Centres will be open as usual on Tuesday at Park Education Support Centre, in Potters Bar.

* Peartree Primary, in Welwyn Garden City.

* Ponsbourne St Mary’s C of E Primary, in Newgate Street Village.

* Rowans Primary, in Welwyn Garden City.

* Sir Frederic Osborn, in Welwyn Garden City.

* Southfield, in Hatfield.

* Springmead Primary, in Welwyn Garden City.

* St Giles’ C of E Primary, in South Mymms.

* St John’s C of E Primary, in Welwyn.
