It’s been an emotional morning for youngsters picking up their GCSE results at Monk’s Walk School in Welwyn Garden City.
A high number of pupils – 26 – achieved at least eight subjects at A* or A.
Many have gained the grades they need to progress into the sixth form, college or apprenticeship.
Headteacher Kate Smith said: “I am delighted with these GCSE results which are once again testament to the hard work of the students, staff and trustees of Monk’s Walk.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to our parents who support the students and the school.
“We are facing unprecedented changes nationally which make it more and more of a challenge to deliver good results.
“These GCSE results come hard on the heel of last week’s very strong A-level results, which saw almost all students gaining a place at university or apprenticeship of their choice.”
Most pupils were thrilled with their results.
Louise McCloskey gained seven As and four Bs. She said: “I’m happy. I wasn’t really sure how I would do so I’m really happy I got into sixth form.”
Calum Wilson received four As and seven Bs. He said: “I’m really really happy now I have got my results. I did as good as I could.”
Cara Flaherty got three A*s, seven As and one B. She said: “I’m really pleased. They’re much better than I expected. I’m staying on for sixth form.”
