EXCITED youngsters got to meet the Children’s Laureate when he visited their school.
Author and illustrator Anthony Browne spent a day at The Wroxham School in Potters Bar meeting children and talking about his books and their own made-up stories.
Alison Peacock, headteacher of the Wroxham Gardens school, said the visit was a great success.
She said: “Every child in the school was so excited to meet him.
“Year six made their own books and they read them to the younger children.
“He came in and sat with the class and said how impressed he was with the way they worked together.”
Mr Browne, whose picture books, nearly 40 in total, have become famous for their surreal images of gorillas, also visited the school’s new double-decker storybus.
Bought on eBay for 2,800, the bus will be used as an extended library for the pupils.
Ms Peacock said she wanted to improve the current library and enliven the learning space to encourage reading.
“We’ve got no space to expand within the school and we’ve got no money to expand either.
“We thought a bus would make an exciting learning space for the children,” she said.
The storybus library will be in full use from summer.
