WORK has officially begun to construct a new law school at the University of Hertfordshire.
The Hatfield-based university is moving its School of Law from St Albans to the de Havilland campus off Mosquito Way.
And the first shovel was pushed into the ground by university vice chancellor professor Tim Wilson, at a traditional turning of the sod ceremony.
“The turning of the sod marks a significant time for the university,” Prof Wilson said.
“The law school is set to be one of the most innovative in the country offering cutting-edge programmes for our students.
“The majority of students at the law school already live in Hatfield or commute from home, so being based on the de Havilland campus will be more convenient for current and prospective students.”
The new facilities will host a fully functioning court room with public gallery, a mediation centre, law clinic and a caf�.
The building is due to be completed by March 2011.
