E-cigarettes lauded by Hertfordshire county council

Hertfordshire County Council has trumpeted the health benefits of e-cigarettes in helping smokers quit.
The council’s newly announced stance on the subject recognises how they help get people off tobacco, which the council said is the leading cause of death and disability in Hertfordshire.
Councillor Teresa Heritage said: “We recognise that vaping isn’t for everyone, but evidence suggests that e-cigarettes carry only a very small risk to health compared with the harm of smoking and are estimated to be 95 per cent safer than tobacco.
“E-cigarettes, when used respectfully around others, offer a route out of smoking, particularly for those who want to quit but have struggled for years to do so.”
