A BMW driver has been ordered to pay more than £800 after driving without due care and attention in Hatfield.

Said Arif, 20, was caught driving without due care and attention on May 8 in Roehyde Way.

On November 1, Stevenage Magistrates’ Court heard how he had overtaken a police car and other vehicles in queueing traffic.

He then approached a red light in the ‘turn right only’ lane and then drove straight on through the red light forcing himself in front of another vehicle, causing it to brake.

He then overtook another vehicle during which he travelled into oncoming traffic, causing the oncoming vehicle to take evasive action.

Arif, of Hawkins Close in Harrow, then sped up and went through another red traffic light.

Arif didn’t attend court and the case was proved in his absence.

He was fined £660.

The court also ordered him to pay victim services £66 and costs of £85.

He was given nine penalty points.

In total he must pay £811.
