THE level of people arrested for drink or drug-driving in Hertfordshire has almost DOUBLED.

Results of a summer clampdown, which took place throughout June, have been released today (Wednesday).

A total of 101 people were arrested for drink-driving and a further six for drug-driving - or 13 per cent of all those stopped.

In a similar operation last summer, just seven per cent of motorists stopped were arrested.

Chief insp Donna Pierce attributed the rise to specific targeting of those suspected of drink-driving, rather than random checks.
