Dreadlocks to no locks at Welwyn Garden City fundraiser

A DREADLOCKED member of a WGC social club had his Bob Marley-like mane shorn, and raised more than 1,500 for charity in the process.

During a lunchtime discussion in the Shamrock Club, in Ridgeway, Ray Walsh decided he wanted to raise money for Isabel Hospice.

But how, his mind boggled? Bungee jump? Parachute jump? Sponsored swim? Walk? Marathon?

None had the appeal of one idea – a sponsored hair cut.

Ray gathered sponsors and raised a total of 1,505 from more than 300 sponsors, for the hospice.

Crowds gathered at the Shamrock to watch the event, and in 20 minutes Ray went from dreadlocks to no locks as bin bags were filled with hair, leaving him looking “20 years younger”.

At a cheque presentation at the club, Isabel Hospice trustee Marlene Duke collected the hair-raising amount and thanked Ray for his efforts.
