DR Who fans will soon be able to wax lyrical about their favourite Time Lord at a special event in Hatfield.
Billed as “an interdisciplinary conference” Walking in Eternity will bring scholars, writers and figures who have worked on the show, together for the first time in the UK at the University of Hertfordshire this September.
Whovians will also be able to talk about the ascension of Peter Capaldi – who famously played sweary spin doctor Malcom Tucker in The Thick of It – to Tardis jockey.
The conference will address the role of women in Doctor Who, masculinity and sexuality, fandom and fantasy, love and narcissism, historical influences, television music, and the cross over to “transmedia and the global brand”.
Kim Akass, senior research fellow at the University of Hertfordshire and conference-lead, said: “Doctor Who has been and will continue to be one of the most distinctive, powerful, varied, persistent and singular myths of the modern era.
“There is a huge amount of scholarship around Doctor Who. The conference aims to reflect on the past 50 years but very much address current issues, including sexuality and the role of woman – something that hasn’t been looked at before.”
The event runs from September 3-5 and more information is available from www.herts.ac.uk/research/news-and-events/doctor-who-walking-in-eternity
