POLICE were called after dozens of people were reported fighting outside a nightclub.

Officers with dogs rushed to the Kandi Bar in Hatfield after numerous 999 calls flooded in.

The club had been hosting a private party for sixth-form students from St Albans when staff needed to call police for help.

Around a dozen officers were sent to the scene at the Town Centre at about 1.30am on Friday.

Hatfield sergeant Keith Dean said: "The Kandi Bar is becoming a real problem for police.

"Sadly this is becoming a regular occurrence."

But Kandi Bar manager Shane Cody said the atmosphere in the club was good and it was more likely to be people refused entry who were fighting.

He claimed the numbers reported had been exaggerated.

"There were probably only about 100 people in the club all night," he said. "Of those 30 had left by the time we called police.

"We called the police to stop anything going off outside.

"But then, we are the ones made to look bad.
