DONATIONS are needed for part of a churchyard in Datchworth to be spruced up and turned into a memorial garden.

All Saints Church, in Bury Lane, hopes to turn a section on the south side, currently set aside for the burial of ashes, into a new small garden, after villagers said the area looks “tired and undervalued”.

Plans have been drawn up by Delith Wringe, a garden designer, which will extend the church path and allow wheelchair access.

At present £1,000 of the £4,000 needed has been raised, and the church is now seeking donations.

Reverend Susannah Underwood said: “Most of the people who come here and grieving and there is a very obvious need for something like this for the people who visit.”

Cheques can be made out to ‘All Saints Datchworth PCC’ and put in an envelope marked Memorial Garden.

These can then be dropped into the rectory in Brookbridge Lane or left in the Post Office Tea Rooms and Datchworth Stores in the village.
