Police were called at 4.02pm on Friday, October 5 by a man who found the pile of cards while walking his dog in the Chequers Field area.

The man said the cards were all open and some of them had cheques inside. He took the cards to Hatfield Police Station.

Another heap of dumped birthday cards, also containing cheques, were found on Sunday, October 8 in Ascots Lane.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We are very concerned to hear about this incident and are investigating as a matter of urgency.
