DEMOLITION work at the former Roche site in WGC is now "well under way", paving the way for the development of around 250 new homes.
The last of the former production buildings was pulled down on Wednesday, while the landmark chimney is set to be razed in May.
A spokeswoman for developer Taylor Wimpey, which owns the site in Broadwater Road, said: "Demolition is currently on course to be completed later this year. We anticipate that we will begin to safely dismantle the chimney next month."
She added: "In the meantime, we are preparing a detailed planning application which we hope to submit to the local authority within the next few months, which will include a proposal for new apartments and houses set within a landscaped site reflecting the Garden City spirit.
