Demolition work at Welwyn Garden City’s former Shredded Wheat factory is set to commence in the coming days.

The Broadwater Road site will have around 850 homes built on it after planning permission was granted earlier this year.

John West, development manager for Plutus Estates, said: “The message from residents, the council and many interested parties has been to get on with this site.

“The council granted consent for partial demolition back in March this year, before Plutus acquired the site in June and now we have appointed John F Hunt as demolition contractors and are ready to start on site.

“This is a hugely important site for Welwyn Garden City and we are working hard with the council to deliver much-needed homes for sale and for rent as quickly as possible.”
