A PIPELINE dream, which began more than 17 years ago, has developed into a business that is now worth more than £2.5m.
Econo Rod drain cleaners, in WGC, originated as a company with just two workers - managing director David Ansell and his wife and business partner, Sarah.
David, who was born and raised in WGC, told the WHT he still has "the same enthusiasm" today.
"I remember the first job I got, I was so excited at the time and since then we haven't looked back."
The Brownfields-based business now has a highly-trained team of 20 people, including some of the most experienced in the trade.
They have recently moved into the old Miskin Plant and Tool Hire buildings on the Garnell Business Park.
Mr Ansell said: "It is a big job refurbishing the site, but we had to move because we were outgrowing our old premises. We wanted to stay in WGC, we feel at home here.
"The site is perfect because everyone knows where you are. There is also plenty of room for us to expand.
"It is all part of Econo Rod becoming bigger. We are now doing much more than just drain cleaning. We provide high-pressure water jetting, plumbing, mechanical descaling and we also do maintenance and have hired Chris Bowles, who used to be in charge of maintenance at Tesco stores."
Econo Rod has long ongoing contracts with major companies, such as the Hilton Group, Marriott Hotels, Tesco, Asda, NCP and Sainsbury's, however can still provide a commercial service.
Mr Ansell added: "I believe the reason behind our success is because we are honest and loyal, which is what you need because it is one of those specialised jobs that you have to trust that the work is done."
The business does not have a call centre, so calls will go direct to a specialist 24-hours-a-day.
