ENGLAND goalkeeper David James, from Welwyn Garden City, has signed for Championship outfit Bristol City.

The 39-year-old, who had been released from Portsmouth, has agreed a one-year deal with Steve Coppell’s side.

James featured for England at this summer’s World Cup and had been linked with a possible transfer to Celtic, but has decided to move to Ashton Gate.

The former Sir Frederic Osborn School pupil has enjoyed a distinguished career so far playing for the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Aston Villa and West Ham United.

He has won the FA Cup with Portsmouth and League Cup with Liverpool.
