Members of Hertsmere’s Community Safety Partnership (CSP) will be out and about in the town during December, sharing simple crime prevention advice to help ensure everyone enjoys a safe and secure festive season.

The CSP, which is co-ordinated by the council, also includes representatives from Hertfordshire Constabulary, Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue, Trading Standards and a number of other agencies who all work together to keep the borough safe.

Sergeant Alistair Jones, from the Potters Bar Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “We want everyone to enjoy a safe festive season, so we’ll be working hard over the next few weeks to get those simple crime prevention messages and measures out there.”

Councillor Charles Goldstein, Hertsmere’s portfolio holder for community safety, added: “Christmas is a hectic time for everyone, and with so much to do, safety and crime prevention can be bottom of the list.

“That’s why we’re asking people to take a few simple steps to keep themselves and their family safe, and make sure Christmas goes off without a hitch.”

There will be seven events in Potters Bar over the coming weeks, in shops and residental homes.

At the Christmas safety events at stores, the team will be promoting personal and home security.

Shoppers will be encouraged to sign up to immobilise.com, where they can register their new car stereos, laptops, sat navs and other items on this free online database, making it easier to return recovered property to its rightful owners should they be lost or stolen.

At 60+ and the residential homes, the team will be focusing on personal safety and how to avoid falling victim to distraction burglary or scams.
