Welwyn Hatfield residents have demanded work be done to a perilous road after a string of recent crashes.

The A1000 in Welwyn (Hertford Road), near Sherrardswood School, has been the site of several accidents since Christmas – including two in a matter of hours earlier this month.

The exact amount is unclear, as the council only records crashes that cause injury, but numerous motorists have urged the local authority to take action.

Among them was Clare Ponting, who told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “I am now incredibly anxious about taking that particular route due to the sheer numbers of cars ending up in the ditch.

“In my opinion that many accidents happening in the same spot, over a long time period can simply not be down to driver error alone.”
