Child hurt in Welwyn Garden City hit-and-run crash

Police and the ambulance service are attending a hit-and-run crash in Welwyn Garden City in which a child has been left injured.
Police were called at 2.57pm today (Friday, May 11) to reports of a crash between two vehicles on Black Fan Road, near Ridgeway.
A backlog of traffic is building up in the area.
One ambulance and one rapid response vehicle attended the scene to treat the child, who was taken to Lister Hospital.
A police spokeswoman told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “Police were called by the ambulance service at 2.57pm today (Friday, May 11) to reports of a collision on Black Fan Road in Welwyn Garden City.
“It involved a beige Vauxhall Astra and what is believed to be a white van that was not at the scene on police arrival.
“Enquiries are ongoing to trace this vehicle.
“A child, who was a passenger in the Astra, was injured as a result of the collision and has been taken to hospital for treatment.
“Officers remain at the scene and are assisting with the recovery of the Astra.”
Beds, Cambs and Herts Road Policing Unit tweeted a picture of part of a number plate with the words: “RTC [road traffic collision] Welwyn Garden City, child injured.
“Offender left scene, leaving some ID!
“Driver will be dealt with accordingly.”
