COUNCILLORS have agreed to put aside their political differences to explore the best way to proceed with the stalled Hatfield town centre redevelopment.

Welwyn Hatfield Council leader John Dean said: "I believe the only way we can make progress on this important project is if we all work together, pulling in the same direction.

"We all agree the current scheme is not deliverable so our priority must be to work together to create a new vision for the town.

"I am very pleased the opposition parties have willingly agreed we should all work together to achieve the best possible outcome for Hatfield."

Labour group leader Margaret Birleson said: "I will make sure we, on our side, make our full contribution to this vital redevelopment project which has been delayed for far too long.

"I will be pushing hard to make rapid progress in these discussions, and look forward to the active involvement of the local community in our discussions."

And Lib Dem leader Tony Skottowe said: "The Liberal Democrats have always supported cross-party working to achieve mutually agreed objectives, so I was delighted to be invited to take part in an all-party approach.

"We are looking forward to working constructively with the other parties to ensure the best possible outcome for the people of Hatfield.
