A Welwyn restaurant has been closed for business while the council investigates an “uncontrolled cockroach infestation”.

Vita Ristorante in Welwyn High Street was served an Emergency Prohibition Notice on Friday, March 16, by the council’s Public Health and Protection team.

The notice by the council reads: “There is evidence to suggest the Italian food business has an uncontrolled cockroach infestation, no implementation of a food safety management system, very poor structural condition and is not maintained in a clean condition.”

Vita Ristorante, which opened its doors in 2013, was given a 4/5 food hygiene rating in March 2016.

A spokeswoman for Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council said: “The restaurant is subject to ongoing investigation.”

The Welwyn Hatfield Times has made repeated attempts to contact the restaurant for a response.

The owner/manager is invited to contact this paper to offer a response on 01707 376041.
