A TOPIC of great debate was the late inclusion of Welwyn Hatfield Council officials in the public meeting.

Bob Jewell told a packed Welwyn Civic Centre that he was very disappointed that the borough council "were not even aware that we were having a public meeting tonight".

Resident Francesca Walkington of Hobbs Hill claimed that Welwyn South borough councillor Mandy Perkins should have taken responsibility for raising awareness about the meeting.

She said: "There were mutterings of this public meeting at the last parish meeting at which Mandy was present.

"We asked her to do everything that she can do. You have to ask what has been going on."

Cllr Perkins insisted that she did "everything she could" and claimed she was determined to find a satisfactory solution to the current dispute.

She said: "The turnout tonight shows it is obvious that the civic centre is vitally important to this community. We must find a way of sorting this out.
