Council chiefs have come under fire for planning to spend a six-figure sum on improving a Welwyn Hatfield car park
The Lib Dem group has highlighted how the 2017/8 budget includes £150,000 for work on the car park serving the Campus West leisure centre in Welwyn Garden City.
Councillor Malcolm Cowan said: “One hundred and fifty K to resurface a car park sounds like a gold-plated job. Have they had alternate quotes?”
A spokeswoman for the Conservative-controlled council responded: “The works will make necessary repairs and improve its accessibility and appearance, including the removal of a number of bollards from the entrance that were in place for the old barrier system.
“The costs are consistent with our other car park improvement schemes, including the work completed on The Common car park in Hatfield town centre in 2015.”
