Students from Queenswood School competed in the preliminary rounds of the Food Direct from the Farm Schools Food Challenge - and could now compete at national level.

The event, held in Peterborough, required students from across the East of England to cook 'a typical English meal for an overseas visitor'.

Three teams of four students from the Brookmans Park school took part and must wait to hear who the judges have selected for the grand final this month.

Queenswood headteacher Pauline Edgar said: "It is the first time we have participated in this event and I am delighted the girls rose to the challenge. We wish them well in the competition and hope they go through to the final round."

Student and competitor Lucy Parker, 12, said: "It was the best day I've ever had at school!
