Plans for a luxury cattery in Cuffley were passed last week by Welwyn Hatfield council with a two year conditional license.
The cattery, in Kingswell Ride, will be a new franchise of the Longcroft Luxury Cat Hotel.
The Cuffley venture will provide accommodation for up to 19 cats and is described in planning documents as a “low-key, high quality, niche service for cats owners”.
But Cuffley residents are unlikely to be pleased with the news.
Ken Golding, chairman of Northaw and Cuffley Residents Association said the group “strongly objected” to the application, calling it “totally inappropriate development”.
They had hesitations about noise and dogs potentially staying at the accommodation.
A representative for Northaw and Cuffley Parish Council also left a comment on the consultation which said: “The PC feel this is inappropriate development in residential street.”
Abi Purser, who founded the franchise in WGC, told the WHT: “We have been trading for almost five years and never had a complaint.”
