A PET food factory which has prompted complaints about smell looks set to build new odour units to tackle the problem.

A bid to demolish two chimneys and replace them with a new plant containing the three units has been lodged by Gilbertson & Page Ltd, of Brownfields, Welwyn Garden City.

A planning application, submitted to Welwyn Hatfield Council, stated: “Their product range has gradually expanded and developed and they now produce food for a variety of animals.

“Complaints of odours emitted by the plant have been received by the environmental health department of the local authority.”

It said the bid “will resolve these complaints”.

The plans are set to be decided by planning officers.
