Welwyn Hatfield councillors, officers and VIPs marked Commonwealth Day on Monday with a flag-raising ceremony outside town hall on the Campus, Welwyn Garden City.

A spokeswoman said: “In its third year, the initiative enables participants to show appreciation for the values the Commonwealth upholds and the opportunities offered for friendship and co-operation with fellow Commonwealth citizens around the world.”

Welwyn Hatfield mayor Cllr Lynne Sparks said: “This year’s theme was about inclusivity, promoting respect, understanding and fairness, all values that have huge importance in today’s society.

“It was great to bring people together to mark this occasion and celebrate the diversity of the Commonwealth.”
