Following Tuesday's blaze which gutted the Wellington pub and restaurant in Welwyn, Codicote Road will remain closed for safety reasons.

The move is to allow for scaffolding work.

Residents will be able to get in and out of Codicote Road from the Codicote end, but it will stay closed to through traffic and vehicles will not be able to access the road from the High Street/Church Street junction.

A county council spokesman told www.whtimes24.co.uk: "The main reason for the closure is to allow a safe passage for pedestrians around the scaffold.

"The closure will stay in place while building work on the Wellington is ongoing.
