A football club is fundraising after the theft of expensive floodlight equipment from their ground.

Codicote FC discovered on Sunday, February 17, that the winch and pulleys had been stolen from the club’s lifting frame, which lowers and raises the floodlights at the beginning and end of each football season.

The Spartan South Midlands League Division 1 club is aiming to raise about £2,000 to help replace the equipment, with delivery and re-read and certification included in the cost.

A police spokesperson said: “Some time between October 1, 2018 and February 18, 2019, the John Clements Sports and Community Centre in Bury Lane, Codicote, was broken into.

“Around 9.30am on Sunday, February 17, the victim inspected a metal cradle used to raise and lower football floodlights and noticed the winch, cabling and pulleys had been unbolted and removed.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Hertfordshire Constabulary on the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference 41/16041/19.”

The club has set up a donations page on crowdfunding website JustGiving to help raise the money.
