ONE close that is split between two Parliamentary constituencies could finally be leaving Welwyn Hatfield.

After a long-running campaign by residents of Franklin Close, in Colney Heath and MP Grant Shapps, it could now become part of St Albans.

As Welwyn Hatfield Borough residents the only road access to Franklin Close homes is through St Albans District.

The anomaly has caused several problems, including school applications which had to come to Welwyn Hatfield rather than nearer St Albans schools.

As a result of years of lobbying Mr Shapps was pleased to report that the Local Government Boundary Commission for England had informed him that the close was set to ‘move’ – pending confirmation from the Secretary of State.

Mr Shapps said: “This will come as a relief to the road’s residents.

“Although it’s always sad to lose constituents, I think on this occasion it will make a great deal of sense for all concerned.”
