Choir sings into BBC finals

A SCHOOL has reached the finals of the BBC Songs of Praise Choir of the Year competition for the second successive time.

The Heath Mount School choir, consisting of 50 children aged eight to 12, will travel to Manchester to compete against choirs from across the country in the junior section.

The final is being filmed on Saturday, February 23 and will be shown on television during March.

The choir will then perform at the newly-restored Manchester Monastery, in a gala concert on the Sunday

Prior to the big event, the BBC are visiting the school, near Watton-at-Stone, to record a mini documentary tomorrow (Thursday).

Choir director Carolyn Godlee said: "This is such a wonderful opportunity for the choir and something that they will remember for the rest of their lives."

The choir is currently recording a CD and will tour Lake Garda in Italy in July.
