HOWZAT! A whopping 12,000 was raised at a six-a-side cricket tournament in memory of a Hatfield lad last year and it is hoped this figure will be hit for six this year.

The annual Oliver Mills six-a-side trophy helps to boost the kitty of the Teenage Cancer Trust, in memory of Crawford Road resident Oli, who died of a brain tumour in 2005 at the tender age of 18.

The contest, held at Hatfield Hyde Cricket Club, where Oli played, takes place on Sunday at 10.30am and will feature a full day of cricket followed by an auction, raffle and live music.

There will also be a bouncy castle, bucking bronco, hog roast and barbecue.

Teams heading down to the Beehive Lane, Welwyn Garden City-based club include a number of Hatfield Hyde sides, Datchworth Cricket Club and Veolia Water, one of the day’s sponsors.

As well as the serious teams, Oli’s friends play every year in his honour – and usually come last!

Oli’s brother, Eddie, 31, said: “This is always a great day and the perfect way to remember Oli, whilst raising money for two great causes.

“We’re hoping to beat the phenomenal amount we raised last year so it would be great to see as many people as possible!”
